Working With The Seoul Shakespeare Company

During our school's Arts Week, I had the amazing opportunity to put on a show with the Seoul Shakespeare Company! It was amazing to see what we could do in just three days!

One of the actors in the Seoul Shakespeare Company, Charles Jeong, visited our school to work with a small group of students. I was lucky enough to be nominated by my English teacher to work with him.

We worked on a few different scripts: one was a scene between Beatrice and Benedick from the play, 'Much Ado About Nothing', another was a scene from 'Richard III', and a few monologues, from the plays 'The Merchant of Venice', 'Hamlet', 'Macbeth', and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

Throughout our sessions, we didn't do much analysing of the actual script. Instead, we talked about the character's inner thoughts and the problems they faced, which could help us with characterisation.

A friend and I chose to perform the scene between Beatrice and Benedick. I actually didn't know that we had to perform during the Arts Week Showcase, where all the workshops run by visiting artists present their outcome, but it was great to show the school what we achieved.

It was such an amazing experience and I really thank my school for arranging it!
